The Sunflower Field One Month Later

The Sunflowers have been in the ground a month now and are doing quite well. We’ve had adequate rain mixed in with heat to give them a good start. The weeds, mostly mustard and buckwheat got a good start too so we got Brian to go through the field with the row crop cultivator. It does a great job of pulling the weeds out between the rows but can’t do much for the weeds within the rows unfortunately. With any luck the sunflowers will form a nice canopy and shade out the weeds. At this point the plants are anywhere from 6 inches to 2 feet. No buds yet but should be coming soon!
