A German made screw press is used to produce Kricklewood Farm Sunflower oil.  Seeds are fed into the hopper in the shell and two screws slowly turn and squeeze the oil out of the seeds.   It is a cold pressed technique so temperature and speed are closely monitored to keep the temperature low.   Oil drips down into the pan and flows into the barrel where it is allowed to settle.  Once settled it is lightly filtered then bottled.  The solid being extruded, ‘sunflower meal’, is fed to livestock or put back on the field to add organic matter.
