To help get through the dark and dreary winter months we’re starting up our popular goat milk workshops at Kricklewood Farm. The next will be a goat milk soapmaking session scheduled for Sunday January 29th. The workshop begins at 1:00 pm with an introduction to the goats and a lesson in hand milking so bring along your rubber boots! Classes are small and limited to 12. Cost is $25 and participants will leave with a bag of course related goodies. To register for this session or learn about all of our workshops, visit our workshops page.

We’ve introduced three delicious new flavours of Goat Milk Fudge just for Christmas: Rum Raisin, Cranberry Spice and Peppermint. Six bite sized pieces packaged in festive red and gold boxes – the perfect size for stuffing into stockings or leaving on the mantle for old Saint Nick! We also have new beeswax candle tea lights and would be happy to make up gift baskets with our goat milk soap, fudge and candles to help celebrate Christmas in the country!

Thanks to everyone who attended the goat milk soap making workshop this past Sunday. I think everyone had a good time and learned a little about making soap too. Above, Mel and Donna are getting ready to milk Reese. Photo Album

Goat Milk Soap is great for people’s skin so why not for dogs too? I found a recipe for a Citrus Eucalyptus blend that is said to repel fleas and other insects. Citronella, Orange Peel and Lemongrass all make it a refreshing cleansing blend. I tell people, good for dogs and master too as it’s all natural.
The molds make it special for dogs too: an almost full sized dog bone, a couple of paw print designs and my favourite, the sitting Labrador Retriever.

Next to Sunflowers, probably my favourite flower, I find Calendula to offer their own more subtle bit of sunshine. The range of colours in ‘Calendula officinalis’, an heirloom with origins in the 13th century is quite special, from pale yellow to intense orange. Herbalists consider Calendula one of the most effective remedies for skin problems, due to its antiseptic and anti-inflammatory properties. It is also considered an exceptional skin conditioner.
We use an ample amount of Calendula petal powder and essential oils in hopes that it will help soothe skin. With our formula including olive oil and shea butter it is sure to be a comfort for sensitive skin. In keeping with the floral theme, we are introducing several new molds including this whimsical sun design, fresh blooms and a watering can full of blooms.
The seeds of Calendula offficinalis are not that easy to find but are available from the Cottage Gardener, a company that focuses on heirloom and traditional species, varieties and cultivars that grew in gardens of old.
Our goat milk soap is available at the farm gate and at several stores in the eastern part of Ontario. For more information, please contact us.

Summer is in the air and we’re officially open for farm gate sales complete with a fresh coat of paint on our sign! We’re offering free range eggs, goat milk soap, bee’s wax candles and artwork. In the weeks to come we’ll also have produce, herbs and cut flowers. We’re a bit behind in the season as the kitchen garden was accessible to the chickens until a couple of weeks ago so none of the early season greens and other crops were planted on time. Now that we have proper fencing and the seeds are in the ground we should be good to go in a few weeks. For farm gate sales we’re open “by chance or by appointment” so drop in or call 613-275-9901 to see what is available when you are planning to visit.

The winter is always a good time to reflect on the previous season and plan for the next so we’ve done just that with our handcrafted goat milk soap. We’ve made some additions to the recipe to include Shea Butter, Coconut Oil and Castor Oil. Olive Oil will always remain as a big part of the recipe and these new ingredients will add a higher level of creaminess and lather.
One of the new varieties that will be introduced is a blend of Citrus and Eucalyptus oils and herbs. It has a fresh, camphoraceous aroma with a citrus undertone. Another is a blend of Sandalwood and other herbs to provide a woodsy, earthy aroma. Vanilla Spice, a blend of vanilla, cloves and other spices is another we are looking forward to. All in all, we will have about a dozen varieties in addition to my favourite, the unscented ‘Natural’ which provides the simplest essence of the milk, olive oil and honey which are the core of the recipe.
